the silver earrings feature carnelian from oregon. there is a circle cut out of the back of the earrings for light to pass through the stone, which allows the stones to glow!

if you’re interested, there’s some fun backstory to these earrings… so, the first collection I released in 2014 (!!) was called ‘celestial bodies.’ I blended my love of negative space and astronomy for inspiration and named all the pieces after astronomical events - it includes the eclipse earrings among other designs! anyways, the redshift earring design initially didn’t have a stone and was flipped, making a true U shape. I found the piece frustrating to make and discontinued it. maybe year or so after that my twin asked if I could make those earrings again, but add stones! I, of course, had to, but decided to tweak it some so the design would look better with stones annnnd that’s how the current iteration happened! if you’re asking what’s a redshift? why, it’s a fun concept! redshift is an example of the doppler effect, basically, when objects move away from us, the sound or light waves they emit are stretched out. this makes them have a lower pitch and moves them towards the red end of the electromagnetic spectrum, where light has a longer wavelength. some of the oldest celestial bodies in the universe show redshifts, quasars are a great example. thanks for reading, I hope that was coherent!
